As Jesus sat with James and John,
The sons of Zebedee,
The men told Jesus their desire
Of where they’d like to be.
“When we are all in Heaven, Master,
This one thing we’d like:
We want to sit beside you,
On Your left and on Your right.”
“You don’t realize,” He said,
“Just what it is you’ve asked.
Can you go through what I’ll endure?
Can you both handle that?”
“We can,” came their response.
“Perhaps you can. Perhaps you can’t.
But sitting to My left and right
Is not for Me to grant.”
“These places have been saved;
You may or may not be the pair.
Those seats will be filled by the ones
For whom they’ve been prepared.”
The other ten disciples,
When they learned of this request,
Were quite displeased with James and John.
Why would those two be best?
Jesus showed the men that greatness
Comes from having served.
He gave the greatest demonstration,
Putting others first.
Q and A:
Q: How can you be great or be a good leader in the eyes of Jesus?
A: Easy! Just serve others.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45 / NIV)
