“But Mom, you said we could go to the zoo!” Jillian sobbed and buried her head on the car seat.
“Honey, I want to go, but the car broke down. We have to wait for the tow truck and Daddy.”
“Daddy can take us!”
“After he takes us home, he has to go back to work. Let’s make play-dough animals instead.”
“I don’t want PLAY-DOUGH animals, I want the ZOO!”
Do you ever get mad when your plans get changed? Sometimes we get our hearts set on doing something and that is ALL we want to do. We get grumpy!
God wants better for us! He wants our lives full of sweet things like love, joy, and self-control. He knows we need help—that’s why Jesus came.
Now we can choose God over the things we want! The Bible calls it “delighting in God.” Psalm 37:4 says it this way:
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”
Life is sweet when we want what God wants. Next time your plans are changed, trust that God made the change because He has something better to give!
When have you been disappointed? How did God help?
