“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” Exodus 20:7
“No ma’am,” said Mom. “That’s something we don’t say.
We only say that in respect and when we pray.
You only say God’s name with care,
He’s told not to use it by something to swear.”
Squirmles didn’t know the impact of her words;
It was just something she had commonly heard.
It was often heard, a common phrase,
Something she heard everyone say.
She heard used in various ways,
But not respectively or in praise.
Her mom continue to explain,
Why it was important not to take his name in vain.
“God is our savior, holy and just,
Respect and honor are a must.
We are called to fear him and regard him on high,
As Christians His laws are what we live by.
“Written long ago on tablet of stone,
Are 10 laws that are to be known.
He gave us law to better know him,
To help guard us from our sin.
“God’s love for us is righteous and pure,
It was for us all the pain He endured.
To use his name flippant without care,
Is hurtful and we need God’s forgiveness can repair.
