2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
God’s Church is described as a “great house.” This great house is made up of many members who are called the body of Christ. Christ is the head of that body. We are all parts of the body led by Him to do a special tasks for God.
You and I are the “vessels.” A vessel is something used to carry things. It is a house also within this “great house” of God. If we know God and He knows us, His Spirit lives in us. God makes His home in our body. He makes it His house.
Those who don’t know God are said to be made of wood and earth. They are not safe under God’s care. They care nothing about Him. They waste all their time playing video games, watching TV, or doing meaningless things that only give them temporary joy. They seek only to honor themselves; meaning they want only to bring themselves joy.
Those who know God, are said to be made out of gold and silver. They are safe with God forever. They want to be with God and do things that please Him like helping others to know Him. They understand doing those things listed above are okay to do sometimes, but it is God that really brings them joy. They want to only honor God; which means doing things that please Him.
What kind of vessel are you?
