Sometimes it’s hard to trust the words
That others say are right.
Peter felt the same way
In a storm at sea one night.
Jesus told His disciples
To get into their boat.
They headed to the other side;
He stayed to pray alone.
That night, the boat was far from shore,
Tossed by the waves and wind.
Jesus walked out on the sea
To offer help to them.
They looked out and saw Jesus–
They were terrified to see
What looked, to them, to be a ghost.
But Jesus said, “It’s Me.”
Peter said, “Lord, if it is,
Bid me to walk to you.”
“Come,” said Jesus, and he did–
He walked on water, too!
When Peter looked away from Him,
Felt whipping winds at sea.
Peter grew afraid again,
And cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Jesus reached His hand out
To this one so filled with fear.
“Why did you doubt me, Peter?
Just trust Me, and I’ll be here.”
Scripture Reference: Matthew 14:22-31
This lake, the Sea of Galilee, is prone to sudden and extremely violent storms. The mountain range surrounding it is 4,000 feet above sea level. These storms happen when the cold air rushes down the mountain and collides with warm, moist air rising from the surface of the water.
