Sam and his mom were busy all week. He had helped her clean and cook for days. His relatives were set to arrive that evening and he was grouchy as he walked to Sunday school. His teachers, Mr. Bernie and Mrs. April, began to tell the class about busy-ness.
“When we are too busy to stop our work or play to spend time with God, we really miss opportunities. The Bible tells us about this in a story about two sisters named Mary and Martha.”
While his teachers read the story from the Bible, Sam thought about his week with his mom. He had been so busy thinking about his toys and grumbling while he worked, and his mom had been so busy working, that neither of them had spent much time praying or worshiping God.
When he got in the car after church he told his mother about Mary and Martha. Together, they decided to spend less time being busy and more time together learning about God.
“But the Lord answered and said to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.’ ” (Luke 10:41)
