There is a two word verse in the Bible, and while it is the shortest verse in the whole book, it certainly teaches us a lot.
John 11:35 says, “Jesus wept.”
This action of crying with deep feeling takes place when Jesus speaks to Lazarus’ sisters. Lazarus was Jesus friend and He had just died. Jesus was overcome with emotion for many possible reasons. Perhaps He was so touched by the love of Lazarus’ sisters, who were crying as well. Or maybe He wept because He knew that raising Lazarus from the dead, which He did, would make the religious leaders want to kill Him, which they did.
No matter why He wept, it’s important to know that Jesus felt everything that we feel as humans. When we are sad, we can turn to Him because He understands. He wept too, and He wants to be there for us. He is able to help us when we are so sad, and we can trust Him with the burdens of our hearts, be cause He understands!
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
What can you share with Jesus today, knowing that He understands?
