Everyone wants to be happy, right? What makes you happy?
The Bible doesn’t talk a lot about happiness, but Jesus said that He came so we can have complete joy. God wants us to be joyful!
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” (Romans 15:13).
Being joyful is a lot like being happy–it’s a good feeling inside. But joy doesn’t depend on circumstances. Joy is something that God gives us through Jesus and we can be joyful all the time just because we know Jesus. If God wants us to be joyful, then it makes sense that the things He tells us to do will help us become joyful, right?
God’s instructions in Philippians 2:3 hold the secret to true joy: “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”
And there’s a special way to remember this secret for joy.
Always put God first in your life. Then, think about others and what they need. Lastly, think about yourself; and remember, God will always take care of you.
How do you feel when you put others first?
