The Kid who saved Christmas
Once upon a time in a village far far away lived a happy little boy named Byron. Now Byron was a special little boy because he always looked for ways to make others feel special. He made his mom and his dad feel special, and even Whiskers the cat. His parents always talked about how he was a blessing to them and Whiskers purrred whenever he heard his friend Byron walking into the room.
Now one day right before Christmas something terrible happened. Whiskers was missing and both mom and dad were crying in the den. Byron felt sad but he knew he had to find a way to help. He quickly baked a batch of Christmas cookies shaped like kittens, then covered them in chocolate frosting with sprinkles on top. As soon as they had all been frosted, he walked to each and every house in the neighborhood, asking all the neighbors to join his “search party” for Whiskers.
Every one of Bryon’s neighbors joined his party and he served each of them cookies and hot cocoa. They sang and they danced as they searched for the beloved kitten. They looked in all the bushes and up every tree. Whiskers was nowhere to be found. It was almost midnight, and Byron was about to fall asleep, but refused to give up on his furry friend. He looked up at the sky at the brightest Christmas star, then fell to his knees and said the simplest prayer…
“Dear Lord, please help us find Whiskers so mom and dad can be happy on Christmas day.”
Before Byron could even let out an “amen”, something amazing happened. Bryon and his search party heard a purrrr echoing from inside the garage. Everybody ran as fast as they could and you would never guess what they saw. Whiskers the cat had drank too much milk and had fallen asleep cuddled up under Byron’s football helmet. The whole neighborhood cheered as Bryon hugged his furry friend. However, our young friend knew that Whiskers missing was a gift from God, and it brought all of the neighbors together for a time of singing and dancing as they searched for his beloved friend.
The next day when Christmas arrived Byron, mom, dad, and Whiskers all had the best day ever, being extra thankful that they were all together as a family, including Whiskers the cat.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
