When Moses talked with God
Upon Mount Sinai, way up high,
God gave him Ten Commandments
To give to the Israelites.
God said, “Don’t worship other gods,
I am the only One.
Don’t make idols or statues —
Always pray to Me alone.”
“It hurts My heart when people curse;
Don’t take My name in vain.
Keep the Sabbath holy,
And each week, rest for one day.”
“Honor both your Mom and Dad;
Obey the rules they make.
They know what’s best and love you;
They’ll help you not to go astray”
“Don’t murder,” said God, “and know
Adultery’s sin in every way.
So, brides and grooms, be faithful
In your marriage every day.”
“Don’t steal by taking anything
That is not yours to have.
Don’t lie about your neighbor —
It will hurt and make them sad.”
“Lastly, don’t be jealous
Of what others have or do;
Tell the Israelites I’ll help them
If they’ll only ask Me to.”
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3 / KJV)
The Hebrew word “Mosheh” (or Moses) means “drawn [out of water].” Since Pharaoh’s daughter saved him out of the water when he was a baby, his name fits him perfectly!
