“The folly of fools is deception.” Proverbs 14:8
“Sorry Mom, it wasn’t me,” Squirmles said as she disappeared.
Mom just noticed the broken glass, just as she’d feared.
She hadn’t broken it, that was true,
But she had done something wrong and that she knew.
She had been there when it shattered,
And she knew that’s what mattered.
She was playing with the dog inside and when it fell,
What technically happened was hard to tell.
She was sure she hadn’t “touched” the glass,
Lucky had just gotten away too fast.
He bumped straight into the table where the glass was set,
Shattering the glass and getting the carpet wet.
She knew she had to tell Mom the whole story,
Even the details, dirty and gory.
She didn’t want to and technically she didn’t lie,
But half-truths aren’t any better in God’s eye.
Whether you’re telling a lie or hiding what’s true,
Both are wrong and will come back to you.
God wants you to honest and not deceive,
It is only in full truth that peace you will receive.
