Do you know the Bible story about David and Goliath? When David, a shepherd, was a young man of about 14 or 15, his brothers along with the Army of Israel were in a battle with the Philistines. David came to bring food to his brothers. When David was talking with them a giant named Goliath from the other side came out making fun of God’s army and calling them names. This made David angry. All the men in the army were terrified because Goliath was so big, but David knew God was on his side. David had already killed a bear and lion with his slingshot to protect the sheep, so he took his slingshot and carried five rocks.
The giant had a sword and a spear, but David said, “I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands (1 Samuel 17:45-46).”
David threw a stone that hit the giant between his that knocked the giant to the ground, then he killed the Goliath with his own sword. When the other Philistines saw that David had beaten Goliath they all ran. God used a boy to save His people and David was a hero. He knew he did not need to be afraid as long as God was with him.
What are some fears you have that you can ask the Lord to help you with?
