“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” Ephesians 6:1
“Let’s go, it’s time to clean your room,
It’s going to be bedtime soon.”
The dreaded instructions came down the hall,
That was the trigger, Squirrel began to bawl.
“I don’t want to cleanup; I just want to play,
I don’t care what you want or what you say.”
Mom stopped short in her tracks with that reply,
She watched Squirrel throw a fit and begin to cry.
Unimpressed by her fit show and her plea,
Mom tried to respond peacefully.
“It’s time to clean and go to bed,
Listen closely and obey what I said.”
Again the tears and protest came,
Mom’s response wasn’t the same.
“Okay dear, you made your choice and I will make mine,
I’ll clean up the toys this time.
“But because you disobeyed that is not all,
All your toys will be in the closest in the hall.
No more toys and more playing,
Till you start to obey what I’m saying.
“Now get ready for bed,
Obey what I said.”
Reluctant and slow, Squirrel headed that way,
She knew in her heart she should have obeyed.
God gives us parents to instruct and teach,
Sometimes discipline has to be reached.
God didn’t give parents to mean and unfair,
But to guide and teach you because they care.
Why do you think parents have rules?
