“Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will obey My teaching.’ ” John 14:23
James had been working in the garden all spring and summer. First he picked up rocks in an empty field beside his house. Then he watched as his father tilled up the earth. He was told to mark the rows, which he did. Then James was asked to plant the green bean, squash and zucchini seeds. He also helped stake tomato plants. Then he weeded to garden when his parents asked him to. Finally. vegetables were coming in, and fast. He had been picking all afternoon when his mother asked him, “You ready for the hard work to payoff?”
James had no idea what his mother had planned, but he shook his head, hoping he was going to get a well deserved break.
“James, your, dad and I built this for you last weekend while you were at the Jones’ for your sleepover. It’s a vegetable stand, so now you can sell your veggies to the neighbors! What do you think?”
James got excited. “Wow! that is so cool, Mom! I bet I can sell all of these. Then I can get that new bike I wanted when we were at the toy store!”
“Obedience pays off, son. Your Dad and I appreciate not only your hard work, but that you honored us by being obedient. Now lets go sell some veggies!”
How can you see obedience paying off in your life?
