“The grace of God…teaches us to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives.” Titus 2:11-12
She was cooking and baking with Mom today,
She loved doing that in every way.
From the smells to the taste,
She would let nothing go to waste.
Apron on, spoon in hand,
She was ready for any of mom’s cooking commands.
But then came the first bit of advice,
It was important enough she repeated it twice.
“Don’t touch the stove, especially the pot,
It will burn you severely, it’s boiling hot.”
The instruction was right and true,
And Squirmles knew what she shouldn’t do.
But she wanted to help and was eager to bake,
She didn’t think of the disaster it could make.
The timer went off it was time to move the pot,
“I can do slowly and carefully,” she thought.
She grabbed her step-stool and stood up high,
Mitten on her hand, she decided to try.
Just to the counter she would move the pot,
Despite her mother’s instructions that she should not.
She grabbed the pot and began to step down,
But somehow her foot slipped on the ground.
The boiling hot water began to slip,
She felt herself falling, she was about to trip.
Then out of nowhere Mom grabbed her arm,
Pulling her safely out of harm.
The pot fell to the floor with a loud bang,
It toppled some more with a rattle and clang.
“Are you okay?” came Mom’s first words,
But to tears Squirmles quickly deferred.
“I told you not to touch; you could have been burned,
Next time obey, I hope the lesson was learned.”
When was the last time you disobeyed your parents? Why do you think it’s good to obey our parents?
