Jesus often told stories to His followers in order to help them understand His important meanings. One day He told the tale of a woman who had a small pile of precious coins. She had worked hard for her coins, protected them, and watched over them. One day, a coin went missing!
The woman was so upset! She searched everywhere until she found the coin. Then, she was so excited to have found it, she called her dearest friends in order to celebrate!
The lost coin is like a sinner; someone who chooses to live separate from Christ. When the person is welcomed back into God’s safe hands, there is great celebration!
“Or what woman who has 10 silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she finds it, she calls her women friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the silver coin I lost!’ I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:8-10
What is a parable? Do you know why Jesus used them to teach?
