One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)
Anyone who has any friends at all knows that they can sometimes be your enemy. A friend is someone who should be on your side all of the time. When bad things happen, a friend stands by you, will defend you, and will put you first–even before himself.
If you have one true friend in your life that does all these things and never becomes jealous or angry because of something good that happens to you, you have found a great treasure. But you probably already know that even the best of friends will sometimes behave more like an enemy than a friend.

Many times the Bible says, “[He] has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’ ” Hebrews 13:5 (NLT)
