Ding! Ding! Ding! Let the wrestling match begin,
Today’s contest, Jacob versus the Redeemer of sin.
They wrestled all night, until the break of day,
Jacob showed no mercy and kept his opponent at bay.
The Lord reached out and touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh,
Jacob’s joint was dislocated, but he refused to give up and cry.
Jacob held his grip even when our Lord demanded to be let go,
He responded that only a blessing would end the show.
Our God made a declaration that Jacob did prevail,
The Lamb could have won, but still He did not fail.
You see, this was part of God’s plan from the start,
He wanted to bless Jacob because He knew his heart.
Jacob was to be known as Israel for he had won,
He had power with God and Men, declared the Son.
Jacob asked his opponent to share his name,
This is when he realized the truth of the game.
It was revealed that Jacob had wrestled with the Lord,
This was when unto him a blessing was poured.
Jacob realized his life had been preserved when he met God face-to-face,
In remembrance He proclaimed Penuel would be the name of this place.
So next time you feel challenged from above,
Try to remember it might just be Jesus showing you some love.
Even to this day the children of Israel will not eat the “sinew” of the thigh because this is where God touched Jacob to take away his strength. This “sinew” is the socket where the thigh gets its strength (Gen 32:32).
What are some things you can do in remembrance of God?
