Yesterday was Memorial Day. Did you celebrate it? Do you know what it means?
Memorial Day is a special day Americans set aside to remember all the soldiers who fought in wars and died for our freedom. Many things you do everyday like worship God, go to school and even watch television or listen to the radio are things Americans can do because we are free.
Remembering is important. Jesus wants you to remember something too:
“And [Jesus] took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ “ (Luke 22:19, emphasis added).
The Lord’s Supper is a special thing Christians do to remember that Jesus gave His life so that we can be free from sin and death. (Galatians 5:1) It’s important to remember what Jesus did for us so that we can learn to love Him, obey Him and tell others about Him. This is something we need to remember and tell others about every single day.
Will you take time to remember and be thankful for your freedom in America? Who will you remember to tell about Jesus today?
