“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted …” Psalm 34:18
Slouching in her seat and slamming the book-bag down, Casey fumed, “I never liked her.”
“Who are you angry with?” mom asked.
“Jerri-lynn. She is having a huge birthday party … ponies and a bounce house and all. She didn’t invite me. I’m not one of the ‘cool kids.’ ”
“I am so sorry, honey. You must be really hurt.”
“I’m mad!” Casey argued until tears began to flow. “No, you’re right. It hurts and I want her to feel bad too.”
“Honey, this is your big chance to live like Jesus. Do you know all of us hurt Him?”
“I am never mean to Jesus!”
“Wanting to hurt someone hurts Jesus. He wants to help us with our hurts. Talking about how much it hurts helps a little. Then, talking about how much Jesus loves you helps more. Finally, ask Jesus to take the hurt all away so you can love again.”
“Telling you did make it hurt a little less.”
“Keeping hurts inside makes them grow bigger. Asking Jesus to help you makes Him bigger!”
“I want to be like Jesus more than I want to hurt anyone!”
Who do you want to be like?
