Jesus spent some time in the desert after he was baptized. While there, he didn’t eat any food for 40 days or 40 nights. The Enemy, disguised as a serpent, came to Jesus when he knew he was weakened. He told Jesus lies, and tried very hard to tempt him to bow down to the ways of evil.
Do you know how Jesus fought the enemy? He used Scripture to remind not only the serpent, but also himself, what the Bible says about God. Not only that, He called on the name of His Father in Heaven to defeat the evil one that day!
What we can learn from Jesus’ time in the desert is that when we are feeling weak, the enemy might come and try to tell us lies: That we are unloved. That God is not real. That we are not safe. The enemy is the “father of lies.” (John 8:44)
But Jesus showed us how to fight the lies! We can memorize Scripture and call on God’s name to comfort and strengthen us!
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:8
What might be some other ways to fight the lies of the Enemy?
