God created us and wants everyone to be in His family. For now, He gave us parents to take care of us. We honor our Father in heaven when we honor our moms and dads. It is one of the ten rules that God gave to us.
“Honor your father and mother.” Exodus 20:12
Sometimes we may feel sad or angry when our parents make us do things that we don’t want to do. We may want to eat cookies, but they tell us eat our dinner first. When they don’t let us go outside to play, we may want to disobey them. But God wants us to listen to our parents and obey them even when we don’t like what they tell us to do–or not do.
God loves us and cares about us more than anyone in the whole world. He wants to protect us and help us make good choices. He gave us our parents and our grandmas and grandpas. He gave us aunts and uncles, even teachers and other grown-ups too, to teach us and take care of us until we are with Him in Heaven.
Jesus obeyed His Father because He loved him SO much. Because He did, He lives in His Father’s big mansion and has a special seat right beside Him in heaven. We want to follow Jesus and obey our moms and dads too, so we can have our very own room in the mansion. He’s preparing it for us already!
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
What are some things your parents want you to do that you don’t like? How can you joyfully obey them today?
