“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth.” Matthew 6:19
Christmas was over; the toys were strewn across the floor,
But Squirmles just sat there thinking of more.
She hadn’t gotten the doll that she had seen,
Or the special Silly Putty that turned bright green.
She had received so many toy and fun games,
But she looked at all of them and saw them as lame.
She wasn’t content or even thankful,
Her mom took her aside to talk about being grateful.
“I know you feel like the other toys you need,
But at the heart of that feeling is greed.
The desire to always have more,
Never content with what’s in-store.
“Look around at all you have been given,
There’s a toy car you haven’t even driven.
Regardless of what you didn’t get,
You should be thankful for what you did and not throw a fit.
“God wants you use all he’s given you,
Not want and wait for something new.
In all of us is a nature of greed,
We have to turn to God to plant a thankful seed.”
God has so many plans for you,
Look around and you’ll see it too.
Focus on what he has blessed you with already,
Not wanting more, but keeping your focus steady.
How would you describe greed? Have you ever been greedy?
