She finally had her first big-kid chore,
She couldn’t wait till mom assigned more.
Fresh water and give the pets their meal,
She could handle it; no big deal!
“Twice a day you must feed the pets,
You have to remember, don’t forget.
If they don’t eat they may run away,
Trying to find food in another way.”
Squirmles wasn’t worried; she knew what to do,
But then something happened out of the blue.
Her friend called with a last minute invite,
“Can you come over and stay the night?”
“Sure I can!” was her reply,
And as she left she hollered, “Bye.”
Forgetting the pets that needed to be fed,
She was too excited about her sleeping bag bed.
After a night of fun and games,
Squirmles woke up startled and shamed.
She had forgotten about the pets!
Something she promised she’d never forget!
She grabbed her bag and home she ran,
Running in the door, behind her it slammed.
“I’m sorry Mom, I forgot the pets!
Did they run away for food to get?”
“No dear, the pets are here,
No one ran away, no need to fear.
Your dad fed them all after you went,
The chore that for you was meant.
You must take responsibility, you see,
A little or a lot seriously.
God entrusts wonderful things to our care,
The responsibility for this is ours to bear.”
What are your chores? How can you practice being faithful and responsible?
