What do you think of when you think of something heavy? Maybe your backpack full of books for school? Maybe the vacuum cleaner when you try to help your mom clean house. Or, you might think of big heavy rocks.
Whatever comes to mind, I bet you didn’t think of the glory of God when I said the word “heavy”. Actually, in the original language, Hebrew, the word for “glory” is from the root word kabad meaning “weighty.” To say that God is glorious means that He is heavy, valuable, important, more significant than anything else.
What happens when you throw a heavy rock into the water? Because the rock is heavier than the water, it moves the water out of the way, causes the water to shake and ripple. You can think of God the same way. Every time God showed Himself to someone in the Bible, there was an earthquake. That’s because God is heavier, more important, more significant than anything and anyone on earth.
Do your worries sometimes seem heavy and hard to bear? Have you ever heard someone say, “I have the weight of the world on my shoulders,”?
If so, remember that God is glorious–He is heavier and bigger than anything you’re facing. When you invite God into your life and circumstances, His mighty glory will shatter your fears and troubles. He is that big and glorious!
“ ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.’ At the sound of their [the angels] voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. (Isaiah 6:3b-4)
What heavy burden are you carrying right now?
