Do you have people in your life that you are struggling to forgive? Maybe you have a parent, sibling or classmate that has done things to hurt your feelings. They may have let you down or said mean things to you. It’s hard not to hold a grudge towards others when they hurt us. I’d like to encourage you to ask God for the strength to forgive those that have hurt you the most in life. God is our Father! A Good Father who is always there for us.
Let us explore what God’s holy word says about forgiving others.
First we can read Daniel 9:9 The Lord God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.
This reminds us that although we ourselves have rebelled against God, He forgives us because He is a merciful God. This is important to remember because God wants us to take the mercy He has poured out to us and show it to other people. That is one way to share the good news of God! All of us make mistakes. We are blessed to have a God that welcomes us with open arms even on our worst of days.
Now let’s look at Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father will not forgive your sins.
This may seem a bit confusing at first but I think what the Bible is trying to tell us is that how can we expect to receive forgiveness from God without offering it freely to others? God wants our hearts to be free and untroubled. He wants us to trust in Him and love the people around us.
Give it a try! Go to God in prayer and He will guide you every step of the way!
