Sometimes things like screen time, toys, games, hobbies or sports, and friends can look like way more fun than time with family or in worship. While these things are not bad on their own, when we take them and place them in front of God and family time, we are creating idols, or sinning against God.
Idolatry is a sneaky sin. It’s easy to fall into because it is in our nature to get excited about things and get distracted. But God is constant, He never changes, and never leaves us, unlike the things we get excited about.
And our family is important because parents, siblings and relatives are also meant to walk with us through life. One very special defense we have against the sneaky sin of idolatry is Jesus. God sent His son to die on the cross for us, and He wants to help us keep focused on the best things of life; a relationship with Him and with others. Trust in Jesus to help you fight the sneaky sin!
“Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” 1 John 5:21
