“That cannot be a real animal! Someone’s playing a joke on us,” scientists said in 1798. A sketch of an animal with a beaver-like tail, fur like an otter, and duck-like feet and bill seemed too silly to be real. The scientists were wrong.
God, the Creator of all, made this odd little creature on purpose. God loves for things to be unique, and everything God does, He does well! God has a different plan for every animal–and every person. So, God makes everyone unique.
The platypus is a great reminder that God loves making things different. Its webbed feet and beaver-like tail help it be an excellent swimmer. Its duck bill allows it to easily scoop up food to eat. God never makes mistakes.
Sometimes we feel like God played a joke on us. Our nose feels too big, or we don’t like our hair. The platypus helps us remember God always has a reason for everything He does.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:14).
What makes you wonder, “Why did you do this, God?” Ask Him! He may tell you.
