“Do not seek revenge … but love your neighbor.” Leviticus 19:18
“I’m sorry,” Squirmles called from her room,
She waited quiet for the pending doom.
It had been an accident, it really had,
But she knew Squirrel was going to be really mad.
It had broken off, the tail of her horse,
She wasn’t sure if it could get much worse.
She took it straight to her sister and apologized,
And just as she suspected Squirrels started to cry.
“I’ll get even for this,” Squirrel said,
Her tears streaming and her face red.
Revenge was all the Squirrel could think about,
How to “get even” was the chosen route.
She wanted to get back at her oh so bad,
Anger filled her heart, she was no longer “sad.”
She would do whatever it would take,
She didn’t care what she’d break.
Ready to act to and take out her plan,
She ran straight into mom who took a stand.
“You can’t seek revenge for your broken toy,
Only through love and forgiveness will you find joy.
Leave justice to God, he will look out for you,
And remember it was an accident too.
Squirmles has asked you to forgive her and move on,
I know you’re sad, but it won’t last long.”
When have you felt like you wanted to get even? What did you do?
