The runner strained toward the base ahead, ignoring the cries of, “Foul Ball!”
“It was fair!”
The fun game fell apart as players tried to bully one another into submitting.
Rules and leaders play a big role in keeping a game fun, but they really don’t guarantee peace. It is human nature to want to be right. It is human nature to want to win. The Bible encourages us to live above our nature: submitting to others because we love God. (Ephesians 5:21)
Jesus showed us what submission looks like when He came to earth and died on the cross for us. He chose to do that to please Father God. Jesus is not a bully who forces us to follow His example. He is a leader who shows us how to follow the will of God above all else!
Bullies insist on getting their way. Followers of Christ must never be bullies. The Bible says love shows others we belong to God. We don’t have to insist on being right or honored. When we choose to honor God, He takes care of the rest!
Do you ever insist on having your own way? How do you feel when someone bullies you?
