Riley did not like all the spooky decorations and costumes around her. There were ghosts and spooks and she was afraid! She held tightly to her father’s hand and watched her older brother walk bravely down the sidewalk towards their friend’s house.
The family was headed there for a fall party, and Riley was dressed a princess. When they came past one house, a pile of leaves began to move and a few children jumped out and yelled “Boo!”
Even Riley’s brother jumped! It was not Riley’s idea of fun, she wanted to cry. Her father sensed her anxiety and knelt down to talk to her.
“Riley, remember what you learned about in church this past Sunday?”
She nodded her head remembering, and her brother Jack spoke up. “Do not be afraid because God is always with us, right Dad?”
“Yes. Let’s choose to remember that God keeps us safe always, and we need not be afraid!”
Riley felt better. She was sure that God would keep her safe, and tomorrow all the spooky would be gone.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
How can you be brave today? In what ways has God protected you?
