Discipline. For most of us, it isn’t a fun word to hear, child or adult! It invokes memories of tough work, tears, and often time punishments or consequences.
It’s difficult for parents to discipline children, believe it or not! Seeing cute faces scrunched up with eyes full of tears and pouty lips make most mommies(and daddies) squirm. But God tells us that discipline is good, and that it is an important way to show love!
God disciplines too! Not only children, but adults. In fact, each time your Mom or Dad has to face the idea of disciplining you, it is an opportunity for them to obey God. Just as the Bible commands that we obey our parents and bring them honor, so does the Bible command that as followers of Jesus we obey His commands, which is pretty tough stuff.
Discipline can be tough in the moment, but when we endure, it always teaches us valuable lessons about strength.
“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11
