God is our Father. He wants us to love Him and respect Him so He can bless us. One way we don’t show God respect is by having pride. Pride is thinking you can do things all by yourself, without God’s help, and trusting in your own self more than you trust God. God wants us to be childlike. This means trusting Him, believing He will protect us, and loving Him the way children love their parents. Pride makes people change from being childlike to being childish, acting immature and silly, not caring about God or doing the right things.
Think of popcorn kernels. When they get hot, they puff up. When the kernels pop, they are more easily devoured. If they stay small kernels, they can’t be eaten quite as easily. Pride makes us puff up, trusting ourselves more than God, and it makes us easier to be devoured. We need to stay kernels, showing God we want to be childlike and that we trust Him.
Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
What are some ways you have acted pridefully before? What are some humble, God-honoring things you can do today?
