Eve and Adam had two sons.
Their names: Abel and Cain.
Cain grew to be a farmer;
Abel tended sheep each day.
In time, God asked for an offering;
Abel brought his flock’s firstborn.
Cain rebelled and only brought
A portion of what he’d grown.
Because sin is so evil,
It requires a sacrifice
Of blood that’s shed, demanding
The giving up of life.
But Cain did not deliver that,
And God was quite upset.
Cain got angry, but the Lord said,
“Why are you so mad?”
“If you had done as I did ask,
Instead of how you pleased,
Your offering would have been one
That I could accept with ease.”
The brothers walked out to the field;
Cain killed his brother there.
God said, “Where is your brother?”
Cain said, “How should I know that?”
The Lord said, “Cain, what have you done?”
But God knew all along.
God cast Cain from His presence.
It always hurts when we do wrong.
“If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” (Genesis 4:7 / NIV)
