“My mom yells and my grandma yells so I AM GOING TO YELL!” Angela was at school and her teacher had asked her to use her inside voice because she was disrupting the class.
Angela’s family was not always the nicest; she lived with her mother and grandmother who both worked really hard and were always tired. Angela was used to them raising their voices at her.
Angela’s teacher was really sweet, Angela thought so herself. She excused the rest of the class for recess and invited Angela to sit with her for a moment.
“Angela, just because your Mom and Grandmother yell sometimes, doesn’t make it the best thing to do. Does it ever hurt your feelings when they yell?”
“Maybe we can think about breaking the cycle of yelling.”
Angela nodded and a tear rolled down her cheek when her teacher leaned over with a big hug for her.
“I’ll be praying for you and your family, Angela! I think you can do this, and maybe even your mom and grand mother will join in!”
Angela left feeling much better. She was going to try hard to break the cycle.
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1
Jesus can help break the cycle. Is there a bad habit you need to break?
