Jesus was God’s own son, yet he came to the world as a little, helpless baby and was born to two very young and often times afraid parents. He was not born in a castle, but rather in a barn, where he was laid to rest in a manger, which is like a big food trough for animals!
He grew up and worked with his hands in a humble career as a carpenter before he became a homeless teacher. Jesus was God’s son, a man and a God, yet he lived so simply. He never demanded respect, provision or anything from anyone, yet he eventually gave up his entire life for the salvation of others.
As humans, it’s very easy for us to think of ourselves all the time. We can sometimes forget that being humble and like Jesus means caring for the needs and wants of other people first, long before we worry about ourselves.
Humility isn’t easy, it means giving up the comfort of our own plan, and sharing even when we don’t want to. But Jesus did it for us! We can try hard to do the same!
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2
