“Mom! You know Mae, the girl in my class? Today in show and tell, she told us all about her religion. Her family worships a god called Buddha.” Lacey was a curious and inquisitive little girl, and her mother was proud of her for always asking good questions.
“Yes, I spoke to her mother at the Christmas party last year and when I asked about their celebrations, she explained that they don’t celebrate the birth of Jesus, but still buy presents for each other and decorate, because that wasn’t against their religion. What did you think of Mae’s show and tell?”
Lacey looked her mother square in the eye and put her hands on her hips. “You mean you knew that they worshipped a false God and you didn’t invite them to the Christmas service last year? Mom! We have to invite them this year! Her report was interesting, but all I really got out of it was that I had to get Mae to come to church with us!”
Lacey’s mother laughed at her daughter’s exuberance and they had a long discussion about false gods, idols, and the One True King; Jesus. Jesus warned against false religions and worship, and He lived a pure, faultless life, earning the right to be our King.
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God” Exodus 20:4-5
What are some false God’s that you have heard of? How can we know Jesus is our One True King?
