Don’t say anything that would hurt another person. Instead, speak only what is good so that you can give help wherever it is needed. That way, what you say will help those who hear you. Ephesians 4:29 – Names of God Bible (NOG)
God wants us to say only good things. Have you ever heard the saying, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all?” That means unless you are saying something nice, don’t talk. Lots of times people hurt our feelings, call us names, or say mean things, and when they do, we want to hurt them too, but God’s Word says not to. Why does He say this?
God says this because when we try to hurt other people, it hurts us too. Think of a time when you said something to a friend that was mean and think of how it made you feel. When I say mean things it makes me feel bad because I know God doesn’t want me to be ugly to people and I want Him to be proud of me.
God loves everyone, even the person who is mean to you, and when we act nice, we show God’s love. No matter how good we are, we still do bad things sometime and God forgives us and He wants us to forgive others, too.
What is something nice and encouraging can you say to a friend or family member today?
