“Jack and Emma! The news says that school opens back up tomorrow. The roads are clear and it’s time to get ready.”
Jack and Emma had just come in from playing in the snow. They groaned together. “But we don’t want to go back to school, Mom! Can’t we stay here and hang out some more?” Jack pouted.
Their mother smiled and sat on the couch with their Bible. “Take those snowy clothes off and then come sit here and read with me.”
Jack and Emma listened intently as their mother told them the story of Jonah, the man of God who didn’t go where he was sent to do God’s work until after he had been eaten by a huge fish and spit back up three days later.
“So you see,” Mom said, “when God calls us to go somewhere, like school, it is far better to be obedient! Remember that big fish next time you want to run from your responsibilities, my little ones.”
Jack and Emma laughed and nodded before they got ready for school the next day.
