“Who can stand before jealousy?” Proverbs 27:4
Her friend had it all; at least it seemed like it.
She didn’t even have to ask or throw a fit.
Whatever she wanted her parents bought,
She had everything and everything’s a lot!
Necklaces and jewelry, toys galore,
Doll houses and games covered her floor.
Her room was big too, twice the size of Squirrel’s,
Painted perfect with pink and purple swirls.
It was hard not to want everything she had,
Squirrel wanted all her stuff oh so bad.
She dreamed of what she’d do with all those things,
She could only imagine the happiness it would bring.
Jealous and envy began to settle in,
She started to slip into envy–sin.
All she could think of is what she didn’t own.
Contentment disappeared and jealous was sown.
Wanting what others have is easy to do,
So easy that God warned me and you.
Written in the Ten Commandments long ago,
The challenges we’d face he’d already know.
Jealousy and envy are hard to fight,
We need to rest in God’s love and might.
Find contentment in all that he’s given
The battle is won when thanks is given.
Have you ever really wanted something that wasn’t yours?
Do you remember to give thanks for the things you already have?
